The digital divide

Have you heard of the digital divide?
I often talk about how virtual networking/communities is a fantastic enabler for equality, in that we are collaborating and communicating on a scale never seen before regardless of race, creed, geography, colour, gender, disabilities.... however there has been for some time an emerging type of discrimination and this is the digital divide those of us that are not comfortable with technologies feel that they are disadvantaged and feel discriminated against because of this. One easy example is that it is often today less expensive to buy things on-line.

I see the digital divide as a temporary situation. Today it is mainly the older generation -well even my generation that are not so old- that feel this. Tomorrow maybe it will be those from undeveloped countries. One day in the future it will be no more, we will all be digitally-enabled.
